The Nutrition and disease in Urban Poor Elderlv in Pusan



Abstract
We make the study of nutrition and disease in the aged indigent by house-call with questionair-sheets. It was designed to analyze the effect of nutrition on the disease, to the disease, to get the community-data for prevention and treatment of
the
disease during 3 months (95.9-95.11). It was carried in the Ju-Kong apartment block, which had been investigated for community medicine by the department of Preventive medicine, College of Medicine, Pusan national university. 75-males and
145-females
answers. They are 71.5 years old on an average. For their monthly incomes, 47.7% make less than 300000£Ü, 86.8% make less than 600000£Ü. As for their educations, 55.9% are uneducated in formally and 29.5% was educated just at primary school. So
more
than 85% of the persons are received not-exceeding primary school education. In the last year, 22.7% was hospitallized and 75% had the gastrointestinal disease, 81% had the dental disease especially 21.8% cannot take meals for their illness. The
prevalence of acute illness was 21.8%. Only one person suffered from more than two than two acute illnesses, 51.4% had the chronic illness. As to chronic illness, the skeletomuscular system is the most commonly involved system, the sensory,
neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive system comes next. It the nutritional intakes, there is significant differences between men and women, except for calcium, vitamin A, B, C. The study shows no significant differences between
the
healthy man and the acute-illed man, but it shows significant differences in the nutritional intake between healthy-people and chronic-illed people, except for protein, fat, vitamin C.(p<0.05). According to the logistic regression analysis, it is
calorie, calcium, Fe, vitamin B, A and niacine that contributes chronic illness. The odds ratios of vitamin B1 is 4.7, that of vitamin B2 is 2.4.
